One of the Emerald City's first professional sports teams, the Seattle Steelheads date back to 1946. Members of the West Coast Negro League, the Steelheads played their games at Sick's stadium in Rainier Valley. Conceived during segregation, the Steelheads are a pertinent reminder that the history of sports excellence in our city extends far beyond those lucky enough to have played in a privileged situation.
